August 2024. Paris signs a 19-year-old from Rennes for 50 million euros. Nobody pitches him as a starting forward for a Champions League final. Ten months later, Désiré Doué walks off the Allianz Arena pitch in the 66th minute with two goals and an assist to his name. PSG 5, Inter 0. He is 19 years and 362 days old.

The Rennes kid

Born in Angers in June 2005. Rennes picks him up at five, eleven years later he signs pro, and three weeks after his first senior appearance he becomes the first player born in 2005 to score in a top-5 European league. The rest of Europe files his name that exact weekend.

Summer 2024, the big clubs move. Bayern Munich put 55 million euros on the table. Chelsea circle. Rennes accept multiple bids. Doué picks Paris. 50 million, contract to 2029. The Brittany side console themselves with a handsome cheque and a few interview minutes in which the kid explains it wasn't about money.

When he lands in Paris, the local press files him as a promise, not a bet. He is one of three new forwards Luis Enrique needs to slot in. Doué, Barcola, Dembélé. That's the perceived pecking order at the time.

The quiet rise

His first months are patchy. Off the bench at Montpellier for his Ligue 1 debut. First PSG assist two weeks later against Lille. First Champions League goal away at Salzburg on December 10, a 3-0 win, on a Fabián Ruiz feed. Nothing spectacular, except for that quiet detail circulating in the dressing room: he shows up in big moments.

In March, he cracks through. Second leg at Anfield against Liverpool, penalty shootout, he buries the fourth kick, the one that closes the tie. One month later, he sends Paris to the Ligue 1 title with a lone goal against Angers. On April 9, against Aston Villa in the quarter-final first leg, a curling 20-yard strike finds the top corner. On May 24, Coupe de France final against Reims, Kvaratskhelia is forfait, Luis Enrique flips Doué into a last-minute starter on the left wing. Doué hands Barcola two goals in three minutes, at 16 and 19. These moments sit on a simple logic: Luis Enrique gives him the minutes that matter, and the kid delivers.

In between, he plays the Paris Olympics with Thierry Henry. Silver medal, final lost 5-3 to Spain at the Parc, Lamine Yamal on the other touchline. Henry will later admit he once threatened to sub Doué off mid-tournament for one dribble too many. The kid listened.

  3. Anfield, decisive spot-kick

    Anfield second leg against Liverpool. Penalty shootout. Doué buries PSG's fourth, Donnarumma sees off Núñez and Jones. Paris go through. The kid is now part of the conversation.

  4. Villa, 20-yard curler

    Quarter-final first leg against Aston Villa at the Parc. 20-yard curling strike into the top corner. PSG win 3-1. First full-scale demonstration.

  5. Munich, brace plus assist

    The Munich final. Assist for Hakimi at 12, goal at 20, goal at 63. Subbed off at 66. PSG 5-0 Inter. UEFA Man of the Match at 19.

The final that rewrote a career

May 31, 2025, Munich, Allianz Arena. Luis Enrique picks Dembélé as a false nine, Kvaratskhelia on the left, Doué on the right. 12th minute. Vitinha finds Doué in the channel, he crosses to the far post, Hakimi opens the scoring. 1-0. 20th minute. Dembélé drives down the right, crosses, Doué strikes, the ball bends off Dimarco past Sommer. 2-0.

63rd minute. Vitinha slips a pass in behind, Doué shoots low across goal, far post. 3-0. The shirt is off before he stops running. Yellow card. Nobody's watching the referee. Luis Enrique takes him off at 66. Long embrace. Paris finishes 5-0. Record margin for a Champions League final.

The day after, the records land. Second teenager in history to score a brace in a European Cup final, after Eusebio for Benfica in 1962. First player ever directly involved in three goals in a single final, across every edition. Youngest final assist-provider, ahead of Jude Bellingham. Official Man of the Match. UEFA Young Player of the Season. Lamine Yamal finishes second. And Paris become the first French club to lift the trophy since Marseille in 1993. A 32-year wait closed by a 19-year-old.

A name that sticks

The season closes with a trophy list that wasn't supposed to exist on a single 19-year-old name: Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Champions League, UEFA Young Player of the Season, UNFP Young Player of the Season, Ligue 1 Team of the Year, Golden Boy 2025. The UNFP Player of the Month award he had collected back in March had barely made the news.

On stage in Munich, microphone in hand minutes after the final whistle, he speaks for fifteen seconds. 'I have no words. It is simply incredible. Luis Enrique is an incredible coach, and an incredible man too.' He thanks his head coach first. Everything fits in those three sentences. The kid understood what he had just done.
