The big matches

Manchester City at the Parc, January 22, 2025. UCL league phase. Paris are down 2-0, the seeding is wobbling, early elimination looks real. In the 78th minute, Vitinha whips a free-kick to the back post, João Neves attacks it, 3-2. Paris finish 4-2, secure the playoffs. Without that turn, the road to Munich doesn't open the same way.

Anfield, March 11. Round of 16 second leg, penalty shootout. Vitinha walks up first for Paris, looks at Alisson for a beat, and buries it top corner. Later, analysts will say that first kick set the tone for the whole sequence. Donnarumma will block Núñez and Jones.

Emirates Stadium, April 29. Semi-final first leg against Arsenal. Paris win 1-0, Vitinha ends the night as UEFA Player of the Match. In the return at the Parc, he misses a penalty saved by Raya, then provides the last-but-one pass on Hakimi's goal. Paris go through 3-1 on aggregate.

Munich, May 31. Final. On Hakimi's 12th-minute opener, it's Vitinha who finds Doué in the channel. On the 3-0 at 63, the ball arrives at his feet off a Dembélé back-heel. October 2025, Globe Soccer names him the world's best midfielder. FIFPro slots him into the World 11. A poster of him will go up in the youth dressing rooms back in Vila das Aves, his village in the north of Portugal. His father, a former pro and Taça de Portugal finalist with Campomaiorense in 1999, watches the ceremony with the same calm he passed on at home. The brain of the European champions is his son.
